MuSiC 4 Diabetes at the IFAC World Congress in Busan
The MuSIC4Diabetes consortium was represented at the 23rd IFAC World Congress in Busan, Republic of Korea, one of the world's leading conferences in automatic control and engineering (23-28 August 2026). Bringing together international experts from academia and industry, the congress provided a unique platform to discuss the latest innovations and advances in control technologies. It therefore offered an ideal opportunity to exchange ideas on multi-target control algorithms, such as the one currently being developed within the MuSIC4Diabetes project.
Chiara Toffanin (University of Pavia) co-chaired one of the three conference sessions entitled "Engineering Diabetes Technologies." During this session, her PhD student, Paolo Alberto Mongini, presented the paper "A Machine Learning Approach for Fully Automated Meal Bolus Delivery in Subjects with Type 1 Diabetes," co-authored with her and Lalo Magni. The research explores how machine learning can enhance fully automated insulin delivery by improving meal detection and carbohydrate estimation, ultimately contributing to more effective diabetes management.
Beyond presenting the project's research, participation in the IFAC World Congress provided an excellent opportunity to establish new collaborations and strengthen existing networks in the field of automatic control for healthcare applications.
