Unobtrusive Continuous Multi-Metabolite Monitoring for a Physiological Care of Insulin-treated Diabeteslearn more

Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Montpellier

CHUM is the 6th largest French public hospital, affiliated with the University of Montpellier. During the last 40 years, the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition has been involved in the development and assessment of innovative technologies dedicated to diabetes care, including portable and implantable insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, artificial pancreas (AP) models, as well as pancreas and islet transplantations. It holds a specific unit for education and follow-up of patients using technologies for diabetes care.

Role within MusiC4Diabetes

Main tasks of CHUM in the project are the clinical and animal validation of the system components as well as the in silico system validation, including:

  • Obtaining ethical approvals
  • Assessment of safety and accuracy of the implanted multi-metabolite monitoring sensor in humans with insulin-treated diabetes
  • Assessment of safety and characterization of insulin delivery from the implanted insulin delivery device in pigs
  • In silico validation of safety and efficacy on glucose levels of the multi-metabolite sensing and IP insulin infusion control algorithm
